Houston police say they have identified a teenager who was shot and killed last weekend when a man opened fire on a crowd of partygoers, injuring 15 people who are still recovering.

It was said to have been a family gathering, a birthday party attended by 100 people or more, according to at least one witness, when one attendee was told to go leave.

That guest for some reason started shooting at people a short time later, then ran. There were return shots from the home on the party’s property. The shooter then ran, and homicide investigators have been looking for him since.

The teenager who died is identified as 18-year-old Joe Mendoza, who had just finished welding school days before he was killed in the attack.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for his funeral expenses, the family said this week.

The search continues for the gunman, who partygoers said disappeared right after the shooting.
