As I understand it, speaking as an Englishman and a retired Police Officer (unarmed), you can openly carry a firearm in several States in the US of A, but not an open bottle of beer or spirits.
The 'right to bear arms' is already restricted – and severely too: citizens can't have yellow cake uranium, plutonium, anthrax, nuclear weapons, missiles, tanks, military drones, anti-aircraft guns, rocket launchers, and other military armaments! At this point, guns are just a consolation prize!

If you say guns kill people, then you can also say pencils misspell words and cars drive drunk and spoons make people fat! A person is what makes a gun dangerous. We don't have a gun control problem. We have a people problem. A gun is an inanimate object. There are several steps before a firearm is dangerous. It takes a person to get a gun, get bullets, load the magazine, put the bullets in the magazine, chamber a round, point the gun at someone and squeeze the trigger. Guns are not the problem. Try putting God back in schools. Maybe that will eliminate some evil.

Remember less people are killed by guns (including suicide by guns) than people accidently dying on the toilet. That's the thing with this issue, its a liberal bipartisan issue. If liberals were thinking about this issue objectively it wouldn't be an issue, gun deaths are infinitesimally small, but liberals treat it as one of the most important issues in the US, they don't care about tobacco and alcohol deaths, that dwarf gun deaths. Its simply a populist issue. I'm from Britain, we have insanely strict gun laws and everyone pats us on the back, but they ignore our epidemic of knife crimes or our mass killings where people use knifes or use cars to drive into masses of people. I'm not pro gun, I like them and they are cool and It would be great to own one, running about the house pretending I'm in the SAS and shoot one, but it doesn't ruin my life not having one but I can't believe people can't look at the gun issue objectively. Unlike what Jim says here, you need a license and a backround check to buy a gun, you can't have certain mental health disorder or be a criminal, that's already in place in America, you can't own a machine gun, or fully automatic etc. What more gun control is need if you aren't going to ban them altogether. You don't need all these laws and restrictions for owning a car yet cars kill far more people a year. Oh and yes I am more left leaning than right before you try to dismiss me, but in Britain where we invented liberalism and conservatism we can have centrist views or views from the left and right. You Americans treat politics like the catholic protestant divide in northern Ireland.
