America is a country full of people steeped in fear and ignorance. There is something hidden deep in the American's psyche, that makes them fearful. I can guess and speculate on what that may be, but the bottom line is guns shouldn't be readily available to the masses as it further perpetuates that fear.
There are more guns in America than there are people in the UK.

Guns are a symptom of the problem. Switzerland has guns; no mass shootings. The problem in America is the failure of our leaders to address the hatred and economic inequality issues which plague the country. After all, a gun never got up all by itself and ever shot anyone. It's always the nut pulling the trigger. Fix the people's problems, and the gun problem will fix itself.

Why is it that registering cars, needing a drivings license is perfectly acceptable for Americans but needing a proper thorough gun license and registering their weapons is the biggest deal ever. The sane people could still get their hands on a gun or two so I don't see the problem. I also don't see why the modern average man would ever need an AR. My idea would be to still have gun ranges open for everyone who does want to shoot with ARs but in a secure environment and these people could have their ARs in storage at those facilities, transporting these to say another facility would require a certificate from the police or something.
This way, the ARs are controlled but still available for those who are into that (certificate required that the person is shooting for a hobby for example), owning an AR would only be legal with a proper license and same goes for those that have hunting rifles. Pistols would also need a license but would probably have higher availability since they are not as dangerous.

Guns are a necessity to some people.
Imagine the scene, you are a hard working farmer, drive down to the farm at 5 am to see that all of your crop fields have been rampaged by wild hogs. What do you do then, hope they move on and start a new life, NO you go and get the family hunting rifle and take care of the hog problem.
Another reason to own guns is to protect your family, if someone broke into my house, I'd feel a lot safer with a way to protect myself and also my family.
A final point could be made that the reason to own guns is that if a nation was to invade tomorrow, you'd definitely be ready wouldn't you.
For every firearm in my country handed to civilians in the Netherlands i have thrown up 3 times. My stomach is fine yet I would not want to imagine having to throw up 163563 times per day because of the amount of guns bought every day in the us.
I'm a British citizen , now an American citizen , yes it's a different gun culture …… But I love it , 2 AR15S , 3 9MM pistols , open carry regularly…… Wouldn't change it for anything

The brief clip of the 1700s muzzle-loaded musket/rifle doesn't even show the loading procedure. The whole rigmarole meant 4 shots per minute maximum (for a trained infantryman working flat-out). And aiming them guns/rifles was nothing like as precise as modern weapons.

He didn't want to talk about the gun laws for one simple reason, the NRA have bought him out. So, they have 89 guns for every 100 people. Give them a couple of years and with all of the shootings, that number will go down to 1 gun for 1 person.

WE don't need to be talking about gun violence in the USA. It is an American problem. Well we can talk about it but it is not our problem.
The issue is our 2nd amendment right "To keep and bare arms"afforded through our bill of rights is what is in question and what we Americans, the moral, prudent, law abiding American gun owners who are at risk of losing that right. The low life criminals who commit all of the gun murders and violence here DO NOT CARE ABOIT GUN CONTROL AND WILL STILL BE ABLE TO AQUIRE A FIREARM TO COMMIT THOSE CRIMES. They will buy them from any dirt bag on the street who most likely stole them or they will steal them them self from a gun store or a law abiding citizen who aquired them legally by filling out the proper documents and has gone through a background check by the FBI. Anyone who has a lengthy arrest record will have a hard time getting approved and if they have just one felony on their record they could never lawfully own a firearm of any kind. As far as when the Bill Of Rights was signed along with the types of available firearms at that time it is all relevent. As time advances so does the industry and the development of weapon technology. Many stipulations have been added into state and government laws regarding the ownership of certain kinds of firearms to control those who are able to obtain said firearms( fully automatic, semi-automatic, certain shotguns and certain configurations of a lot of these weapons as well. It is almost impossible for any citizen to lawfully own a fully automatic firearm or "machine gun" without paying crqzy fees and obtaining a special kind of "lisence" that many lawfull gun owners would not be able to obtain. Which doesnt bother me at all. I dont need one but there are a lot of criminals that have gotten their hands on them and I'll be damned if one or a few of them show up with the intent to do my family, friends or neighbors harm and I'm not "allowed" to own a firearm for protection because of gun control and this government trying to take away our right to own one. "Gun control" is for the criminals who could care less if their right to bare arms was taken away because they gave up that right when they bacame criminals and they will again, either steal them or obtain them illeagally when ever they want one. The upstanding law abiding people will be the ones who suffer when we can not defend ourselves with tools comparable to those of the criminals. The guns arent the problem its the dirtbag criminals who use them. I never saw a gun jump up on its own and start shooting at people. There are millions of guns in this country that the government would never be able to take them from everyone especially the criminals.

the second amendment was written so that American people could defend themselves in Britain tried to invade them after the revolution, not to shoot school children or concert goers.
