On Tuesday, March 26, Governor Glenn Youngkin supported Virginia’s sportsmen and gun owners by vetoing the below bills that do nothing to reduce gun violence and only harm the law-abiding.
Senate Bill 2/House Bill 2 would have banned the import, sale, transfer, manufacture, and purchase of “assault firearms,” and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
Senate Bill 273/House Bill 1195 would have imposed an arbitrary 5-business day waiting period on when a sportsman can take possession of their firearm even after clearing their criminal background check.
Senate Bill 491/House Bill 318 would have instituted new vague laws and restrictions on the already heavily regulated firearms industry. It also authorized the Attorney General or a district attorney to sue a member of the firearm industry by alleging violations and even potential violations of these laws to the extreme of allowing persons “likely to be harmed” to request equitable relief from a court.
The fight to protect hunting, angling, trapping, and firearm rights is not over. We expect animal rights and gun control advocates to return in 2025. Rest assured, the Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to fight with you and monitor activities in the Old Dominion State.
