THANK YOU. I AM GLAD TO HEAR SOMEONE ELSE WHO REALIZES THAT ABE DIDN’T FREE ANYONE! Most of the time when you tell someone that he absolutely did not free the slaves they say “But the Emancipation Proclamation”, to which I respond by asking them if they have actually read it. 100% of the people asked answered in the negative. There were plenty of slaves in the states that did not leave the Union, but he didn’t bother to free any of them. Yes, he hated slavery but he was also massively bigoted against those with black African ancestry; he was not a fan of people with sub-Saharan ethnicity and said that they should never be allowed to become American citizens. The dude wasn’t a nice guy, not at all.
He ordered the destruction of any printing press/newspaper in the Union that criticized him, his handling of the war, and the war itself. He had state Senators arrested at gunpoint. My own state of Maryland voted first to remain with the Union but try to be as neutral as possible. As the war went on Marylanders turned against the Lincoln Administration and we’re going to vote to remove the state from the Union and join the Confederacy. So how did he handle it? By having them arrested by heavily armed soldiers and imprisoned.
Don’t get me wrong, person who may read this – I’m glad that the Confederacy failed. Could you imagine if we lived in a country that was divided? What about wanting to take your children to Disney World for family vacation and having to obtain a passport to enter from your Union state to the Confederate state of Florida? What if our black cousins were still held in bondage? Yes, slavery was on the decline in the South before the war but had they won there’s no guarantee that slavery would not have increased in popularity over the years. While the American Civil War is very much a main reason why we have an overreaching Federal government today instead of sovereign states that are banded together in common cause, I think that our country would suck a lot more had the Confederacy won the war.
But Abraham Lincoln was not the patriot and hero that our teachers taught us; the real man was an absolute wreck and the closest thing we’ve had to date as an American dictator.
On the other hand, Lincoln was lucky that Brandon wasn't a nearby doctor.

I don’t think you’ll ever get this, but Booth is like my 6-7-8th great uncle on my maternal side. I haven’t seen it yet, I need to prompt my mother to show it to me, but the family tree exists showing it, she says, and that book is bound together with strings and falling apart. Just thought I’d throw that out there! How fast the family tree branches off!
