I struggle to find articles from more than a few years ago but many many years ago I read an article about black women being shot by black men. It said something along the lines of if her boyfriend legally owned a gun there was a 1 in 200 chance he would shoot her when she broke up with him. If he did not own a gun at all there was near zero chance he would acquire a gun legally and then shoot her, but there was a 1 in 80 chance he's acquire a gun illegally and shoot her. If he already owned a gun illegally there was a 1 in 40 chance he'd shoot her and a 1 in 60 chance she would be shot by someone associated with him.
I wish they would get into the habit of showing stats from more than one source instead of acting like the first google search results is definitive and well researched. If you do your own research you'll find that most years over 90% of gun related deaths and over 90% of non fatal shootings are done with handguns when the type of gun IS KNOWN. When the type of gun is not known but the type of bullet is known, it's typically a pistol-caliber that could have been fired from a handgun or a carbine or a rifle. (I have no reputable mainstream news agency source for that last sentence, only what a police officer told me.) So I think it's safe to say at least 88% of gun deaths and 88% of gun injuries are done with a handgun.
America is a hopeless situation for gun control, (their will be peace in the middle east before their agreement there) They should just focus all their energy on mental health treatment and that means guess what some universal health care, you need to make it so people seek treatment before it gets this bad

everyone should have to earn a badge of knowledge in subjects before being able to make a law/form an opinion about it.
I'm glad to see people are waking up. There's a huge mental health issue in this country and no one is addressing it. It's not the guns… It's the people. You cannot predict when someone is going to snap it's almost impossible to foresee that.
