Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! http://shop.bbtv.com/collections/forgotten-weapons
Today, I’m taking the AJ ordnance “Thomas” .45 to the Backup Gun Match to try it out on the clock. The Thomas was designed as a concealed carry pistol, with no external controls and a long revolver-like double action trigger in lieu of a safety. It actually performed better than I expected, especially on the plate rack in the last stage. The fixed barrel makes it a mechanically quite accurate pistol, but the trigger and sharp recoil impulse make it difficult to realize that potential accuracy.

I have an AMT Backup in 45. My hands hate that thing
A heavy trigger on a back up gun with the adrenaline flowing isn’t the worst thing on earth
Have you done a "back up" shoot with a good old .38 Colt/S&W snub nosed revolver
Thicc PPK?
Me doing my "Doc" Holiday impression: "Johnny Ringo!" What IS wrong with your gun?
Or: does he look a bit more like, Curly Bill?
I live in a country that has restrictive gun laws. So watching these contests are tremendously informative. Nice.
Def not a good backup gun – there is something better
6 rounds of 45acp is no joke

Love the BUG matches!
Ian never addresses the "why" of this gun. I'm thinking that the design is not all that bad just way different than what we're used to. So what was the designer thinking, what was the perceived advantage of this action or was it merely " I've got this new patentable idea let's see if we can make some money from it?" We'll probably never know…sad really. I find the stories of failed gun designs frequently more interesting than the successful ones.
That shirt definitely helped with your accuracy.
In all fairness if you need that many shots out of your backup at one time you are pretty well screwed anyway.
Love the shirt
There is a rumour that Chuck Norris got himself one of these in 460 Rowland.
Your shirt is ugly as sin
too light a pistol for a .45 cal. round
Just wanted to say thankyou for showing that this match exists. After consulting with Aaron we have just held the first "Back Up Gun Match" Down Under. We have had to adapt the match to suit our firearm regulations, and in a sense the match here is more of a "Safe Queen"/Gun-I-don't-get-to-shoot sort of thing. It was a huge amount of fun and we intend to continue with it. A certain amount of self interest in it for me…I now have a fun competition to shoot with my 1912 Steyr! LOL
I would like a video on the backup gun matches themselves…especially which handguns (or types of handguns) tend to do best in each of the four categories.
