If everyone owned a gun, and there were no gun free zones, there would be less gun crimes.
You cannot protect against mental health, the majority of people have a least one mental health episode per year and they tend not to get reported or acknowledged, this means the only way you can protect the public is to remove the gun as in very strict gun laws. This is not just an opinion, this can be demonstrated and historically has been shown to work across the globe whether you look at Australia or the UK who brought in strict laws following mass shootings or whether you look at say Japan who has one of the strictest in the world and has a historical record of virtually zero instances of gun related crime or accidents.
The USA on the other hand uses brainwashing methods of their children to make them believe guns are needed for protection, this is done by the NRA pumping millions into the education system to give the message they want so as to reap the financial rewards later when these kids leave school with a trigger happy mentality. Even the government isn't immune, the NRA has some extremely powerful lobbying abilities that it uses to control how the governments pass laws that may effect its interests… it is no coincidence that president after president fails to bring in new laws and given Trump himself benefitted in the election run ups from NRA donations it is unlikely to change anytime soon.
The US is already too far down the rabbit hole to stop this but a start would be to block the NRA from influencing the education system and also block its ability to lobby to suit its vested interests… that way the next generations of young adults will have a more logical approach to gun ownership without the indoctrination pushed on them, writing as a outsider looking into America, all I can see is the most illogical excuses and cognitive dissonance been evident when people defend gun ownership…. you just keep saying that while your kids are been slaughtered year after year, you know it can only get worse yet you just cover your ears and shut your eyes because the hard truth doesn't suit pro gunners ideology.
Here after watching the march 15 new zealand mass shooting first-hand video. Guy used a AR 15 and they already have strict laws from what i read. In the video only 1 person attacked the shooter unarmed and almost stopped it. I think i need to look into owning a gun but I'm religious as well so I'm conflicted

The study the Washington Post is referring to was done be Louis Klarevas, Klarevas included mass shootings committed with handguns (68% of his cases that he used in his analysis included mass shootings committed with handguns ) Klarevas also didn't use the old or new FBI definitions of mass shooting in his analysis. On top of that it was a non-academic study that was never peer reviewed.
Christian conservatives be like, "We need guns, but my religion tells me thou shall not kill." Hypocrites. Jesus didn't physically defend himself before/during his crucifiction, so if your God didn't defend himself start asking yourself that silly question "WWJD?" This is a lie. This person is adding all mass shootings together. If you take away mass shootings of 3 or more people with drugs, domestic, gang violence, robberies you will see that almost all mass shootings are done by people on prescribed psychotropic drugs. Don't forget that medical records are not released to public all the time but I am sure drug companies wouldn't pay families off to not let the public know even though they have never had a trial make it through till the end as they have always settled before the end. This debate belongs in the American peoples hands. We should have a straight vote and let the people decide what gun laws need to be enacted. Our law makers do not know better. The second amendment is in the Constitution for a reason.
