MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A total of $50,000 is being offered for any information leading to the arrest of the people responsible for a mass shooting in Hickory Hill, according to Shelby County CrimeStoppers.

CrimeStoppers announced a $25,000 reward on April 23. Since then, anonymous donors doubled that, bringing the total amount of reward money to $50,000.

That money could be available for anyone who helps identify the person or people responsible for the murder of 22-year-old Matthew Williams on April 9.

Williams was one of dozens of people attending a gun violence prevention meeting when bullets flew into the crowd. Williams died at the scene. Five other people suffered injuries.

Memphis Allies, the organization that hosted the meeting, released the following statement after the mass shooting.

“We are heartbroken over the senseless act of gun violence on Wednesday that claimed the life of a Memphis Allies program participant at one of our sites. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and to the staff members who had been working with the young man.

In 2022, Youth Villages, along with community partners, launched the Memphis Allies initiative in response to the city’s escalating gun violence. While we are devastated by Wednesday’s events, it will not shake our resolve to continue working with community leaders and partner organizations to reduce gun violence and make Memphis safer.

Please keep the victim’s family, our staff, and all of those affected by gun violence in our community in your thoughts and prayers.”
